According to the announcement, the new measures introduce several procedures designed to accelerate cargo handling and simplify customs processes, including:
Allowing requests for transit cargo clearance before the vessel arrives, submitted by the shipping agent.
Accepting the shipping line guarantee as an alternative to a financial guarantee.
Recognizing the shipping agent’s seal on transit containers.
Applying selective customs inspection for certain goods such as controlled items, refrigerated cargo, and food products.
Permitting unloading of transit containers onto trucks and storing them in free zones or customs warehouses.
Expected Outcomes of the Decision
These measures are expected to deliver several important benefits:
Faster transit and re-export operations to GCC markets.
Lower logistics and operational costs for traders and shipping companies.
Strengthening the role of Omani ports as regional transit and re-export hubs.
Attracting more international shipping and logistics companies to use Oman as a transit gateway.
Improving regional supply chain efficiency and trade connectivity across Gulf markets.
Overall, the decision reinforces Oman’s strategy to position itself as a key logistics and trade gateway for the Gulf region.
